Indy Airport Does It Again — Claiming Top Spot 12 Years Straight
Best airport for customer experience worldwide – as chosen by passengers
INDIANAPOLIS (March 11, 2024) – The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) leads the continent again among midsized airports, taking the top spot 12 years in a row as Best Airport in North America as named by Airports Council International (ACI) World.
ACI World surveyed nearly 600,000 travelers in 2023 to determine which airports deserve the top spot in the Airport Service Quality Awards around the world. Each airport is rated based on over 30 key performance indicators, such as ease of finding your way, check-in, shopping and dining offerings, and cleanliness of overall facilities. The Indy airport was among nine to receive top scores in all categories. The ASQ awards recognize the achievements of airports of different sizes and regions around the world.
“Indianapolis having the best airport in North America for this long of a run, 13 years in total, is about more than bragging rights,” said Mario Rodriguez, Indianapolis Airport Authority executive director. “This kind of recognition of our world-class class team and their special brand of Hoosier Hospitality translates directly to attracting top sporting events and conferences to the city – repeatedly.”
As an example, the Indy airport was recently showcased to an international audience as Indianapolis hosted NBA All-Star, featuring a weekend full of events attracting more than 190,000 fans and delivering an economic win for the city.
“This recognition is again a reflection of what the Indianapolis International Airport truly is – the front door of a welcoming and vibrant city that people love to visit,” said Patrick Talty, president of Indiana Sports Corp. “Without our airport’s ability to deliver a world-class customer experience time and time again, we wouldn’t be nearly as successful in attracting the large-scale sporting events our city is known for. The fact that this honor is based on customer service excellence extends to our ability to serve event partners like the NBA, NFL, USA Swimming, NCAA, and many more.”
The Indianapolis International Airport has been an essential part of Indianapolis’ efforts to recruit top events and major conventions to the city. This will continue in 2024 with the return of big conventions like Gen Con and National FFA, major sporting events with record-setting attendance like the NFL Combine, and the upcoming U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming. And in November, Indianapolis will welcome Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour – the world’s most successful concert tour of all time. The Indy airport is the first welcome and last experience for hundreds of thousands traveling through Indianapolis.
“From uplifting the local arts and culture of our city’s diverse communities to rolling out the red carpet again and again during major events like NBA All-Star weekend and the Indianapolis 500, the Indianapolis International Airport has come to symbolize all our city has to offer. More than a travel resource, visitors and residents alike know their uniquely Indy experience begins when they step off the plane and into the terminal,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Not every community gets to claim they are home to the top airport in the country for twelve straight years. Thank you to the entire Indianapolis International Airport crew for all you do to make Indy a great place to visit, and an even better place to call home.”
The Indy airport also recently was named a Best Place to Work in Indiana by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, honored as a Choice Employer in the Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Awards, and recognized for a sixth time as best in customer satisfaction among medium-sized airports in North America by J.D. Power.
