Oregon Ducks’ Fans Flying in for Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis

Southwest, Delta, and United Airlines add specialty flights for championship weekend

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 29, 2024) – As the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) prepares to welcome thousands of fans for the Big Ten Football Championship Game next weekend, airlines have added specialty nonstop flights to accommodate Oregon Ducks’ fans traveling across the country.

The Oregon Ducks made a splash in Indianapolis earlier this summer with a large inflatable duck mascot spotted floating the White River in downtown Indianapolis as they were announced as one of four new teams to join the Big Ten conference. This is the Big Ten’s first season with 18 teams.

“Big events are Indy’s forte, and our airline partners are doing their part to ensure fans have plenty of options to be here in person to celebrate Oregon’s first Big Ten championship game,” said Mario Rodriguez, Indianapolis Airport Authority executive director.

Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines will each offer nonstop flights to Indy from Oregon Dec. 6 – 8, specifically for the Big Ten Football Championship Game.

Southwest will operate two nonstop flights from Eugene (EUG) and Portland (PDX), giving Oregon Ducks fans even more options. The Eugene flight arrives in Indy on Dec. 6 at 7:40 p.m. and departs for Eugene on Dec. 8 at 1:35 p.m. The Portland flight will arrive in Indy on Dec. 6 at 7:50 p.m. and departs for Portland on Dec. 8 at 12:30 p.m.

Throughout the season, Southwest Airlines has been adding more flights ahead of college and NFL football games so that fans can cheer on their teams across the country. This will be the first time Southwest has flown these routes into Indianapolis.

Delta’s flight will depart Portland on Dec. 6, arrive in Indy at 5:15 p.m., and return to Portland on Dec. 8 at 12:55 p.m.

The United flight will depart Eugene for Indy on Dec. 6, arriving at 5:00 p.m. and returning to Eugene on Dec. 8 at 12:00 p.m.

Oregon fans landing in Indy will be greeted with a winning welcome from the Indy airport. Along the passenger journey, Big Ten graphics will be displayed, and larger-than-life photo opportunities will be available with the 3-D B1G letters and more.

“Part of what makes Indy the best host city in the country is how the city comes together to welcome visitors in a big way for events like the Discover Big Ten Football Championship Game,” said Patrick Talty, Indiana Sports Corp president. “Oregon fans will experience what Indy has to offer from additional nonstop flights into our award-winning airport to city décor and all the downtown activations happening over the championship weekend.”

Indiana Sports Corp anticipates that approximately 65,000 fans will travel across the country for the biggest game day of the year in Big Ten college football.
