The Art of the Game: Artists at Work
With the reveal of its three-year “Fieldhouse of the Future” project, in October 2022 the Capital Improvement Board and Pacers Sports & Entertainment unveiled their first-ever collection of artwork for Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Collectively called The Art of the Game, the project commissioned 22 Indiana-based artists to create 57 works of art, placed permanently on view in three of the four seating levels of the fieldhouse. Artists were provided with “stories” to interpret in their own way: from the 1970s ABA Pacers to “iconic Pacers moments” to Crispus Attucks and the Dust Bowl, all the way to Hoosier Hysteria, Indy’s love of basketball received the thoughtful and creative attention that it had thus far been missing. This current exhibition, however, puts the Fieldhouse artists themselves in the spotlight. We get a welcome glimpse into 17 of the 21 artists' thematic interests and individual achievements, and if you’re familiar with the collection, we hope you get a new insight into how these artists work.
