The Bigger Picture: Film in Indy

Category: Temporary

Every year, Indy Film Fest with Lodge Design puts together an event celebrating both the love of cinema and the Indianapolis design community. The Bigger Picture Show showcases the city’s best designers who use their creativity to re-imagine classic movie posters. The designs featured here are a selection of the “best of the best” from the 2020-2022 Bigger Picture Show exhibitions.

Long a source of inspiration for storytellers across multiple mediums, Indianapolis has a fast-growing reputation as an affordable, production-friendly film destination, offering diverse locations and iconic venues within a 30-minute drive of Downtown, along with prodigious industry talent and world-class film festivals like Indy Film Fest and the Heartland International Film Festival.

Film Indy launched in 2016 to enhance the job market for Indy’s film community - by driving additional tourism spending by visiting film crews, engaging local performers and production companies, and generating marketing exposure for the city. Indy has been the host city for feature films such as Pigasus Pictures’ The Miseducation of Bindu, and television shows including NBC’s American Ninja Warrior and Parks and Recreation, episodes of the YouTube children’s series Blippi, and Netflix’s Say I Do. Film Indiana, likewise, inspires production of major motion pictures in Indiana: recent central Indiana productions include Columbus (starring John Cho) and O.G. (starring Jeffrey Wright). In 2022, Indiana passed a new Film and Media Tax Credit which provides an incentive to the creative economy to film qualified media productions in Indiana.

IND is proud to support Indy Film Fest and Heartland Film, and to provide an ongoing venue in the facility for individual artists working in film and video to showcase their work.
